Should I add Double Minutes for Life to my phone?

This is a question asked many many times by Tracfone users. I will give you one scenario to show you why you should.

This is the per minute rate of typical airtime cards purchased at retail prices.

• 60   Minute Card - retail $20 - per minute rate of 33 cents
• 120 Minute Card - retail $30 - per minute rate of 25 cents
• 200 Minute Card - retail $40 - per mintue rate of 20 cents

I will use the cost of a 200 minute airtime card because it has the lowest per minute rate of the 3 typical airtime cards. 20 cents per minute.
If you normally buy the smaller denomination cards then your investment cost of the DMFL card will be offset sooner.

You have to buy an airtime card to add minutes to your phone. You choose the 200 minute card becaue it is the best value. $40

• If you are going to add another 200 minute card in the future that is another $40.
• A DMFL card can be purchased for $50 retail.
• It would double that 200 minute card you currently have for an immediate value of $40. So you would have $10 left invested in the DMFL card.
• There is a 50 minute bonus code to use when adding the DMFL card (51540) which is a $10 value when calculating at 20 cents per minute.
• So a $50 investment now will be offset after just 200 minutes of usage.
  

Some basic info on the DMFL plan and transfers.

This is part of an email response from Tracfone concerning minute transfers.

Please note that if you have an active 800-minute double minute for life plan or a 400-minute one year double minute plan on your phone, it is
transferable under the following conditions:

• the phone is defective
• phone upgrade within one year of redemption
• TDMA exchange, or
• technology exchange.

If you have an active double minute for life plan that did not include airtime initially (DMFL Card), it is transferrable under the following conditions:

• the phone is defective
• TDMA exchange
• within 3 months of redemption, or
• technology exchange.

That statement says that DMFL added by purchasing the DMFL card should be transferrable to other phone if you upgrade within 3 months, however.

This is stated for all 3 DMFL cards

• 1 year 800 minute dmfl card
• 1 year 400 minute dmfl card (no longer offered by Tracfone but available on ebay)
• DMFL card

Double minutes for life of single TRACFONE after you purchase and add this card; not transferable to another TRACFONE even if phone is damaged, lost or stolen. The minutes that come with this card will not double.

That statement says you are SOL on transferring the DMFL plan, but we know there are a lot of statements in the T&M that are now incorrect due to policy changes.

It is also common knowledge that DMFL transfer has always been on a case by case basis.
