This tutorial will show you how to get the current Parameter 0 for any Tracfone.
If you loose your phone and wish to transfer the mintues to a new phone you will need the Parameter 0 and the Parameter 30 values from the phone. Parameter 0 can be obtained from the system using this method.
Parameter 30 cannot be obtained, it is created in the handset and changes with normal minute usage. It is advised to record the parameters from your phone after each airtime addition. The combination of Parameter 0 and Parameter 30 tell the system how many minutes are on your phone when you enter those values during a transfer or when you give those values to a CS rep on the phone.
You can make up some numbers for Parameter 30 and the system will give you the amount of mintues that it will transfer but this is always risky. If they find the phone is using more minutes than were actually on the phone the results can be not only service termination but the phone can be rendered forever useless.
I assume the phone communicates with the system each time airtime is added and the Parameter 30 value is then recorded in the system. The changed Parameter 30 value is not re-recorded in the system until airtime is added again. Random numbers cannot be used but it appears that any values that were at one time recorded together in the system can be used.
Example:
The system knows how many mintues were on your phone after you last added airtime to it. If you use the value for Parameter 30 that was on the phone immediately after the airtime was added, the system may show it transferring that amount of mintues even though there are fewer minutes on the phone at the time of transfer. Transferring more minutes to the new phone than were on the old phone can pose some natural risk, doing so is stricktly up you.
If you use the last parameters (6 & 22514) during a transfer, the system will transfer 148 minutes from the phone. If you use earlier values (6 & 15205) the system may transfer 300 minutes from the phone. Remember, The system always knows the correct Parameter 0 value and there is always risk involved when you do not use the correct value of Parameter 30.
Now the tutorial
Start at the Tracfone Tech Support Page
Enter the serial number for the Tracfone and choose submit
Click the button shown
Choose Continue
Click the Invalid Code button
Click the Invalid Code button AGAIN
Enter a value that you feel is smaller than what Parameter 0 actually is.
If you enter a value that is too high you will receive an error message. You can just back up and enter another value to try again. You can also start over as many times as you like.
Most phones that have never had minutes added after activation have a value of 3 to 5. This parameter increases with each time a transaction is processed on the phone or each time a code is entered manually. So a phone that started out after activation with a value of 3 and had one airtime card added would have a parameter 0 value of 4.
You can start at 0 if you want, it will just give you more codes during the process. Do not enter the codes it gives you, see the next step.
Do not enter the codes it gives you. You will just click code accepted for each one.
Once the system starts giving you codes you need to record the number that you entered in the box at the start. Click "code accepted" for each code the system gives you.
The value you entered to start with will increase by a value of 1 each time the system gives you a code, and you click "code accpeted".
Continue to click "code accepted" for each code the system gives you and remember to add 1 to the starting number for each code.
For the phone used in this tutorial I started with a value of 3 (see shot 6) and it gave me 5 codes total. I add 5 to the starting number of 3 and the total is 8. Parameter 0 on the phone is 8. This is the Parameter 0 value that the system has for the phone.
You will not know when it is going to give you the last code, and you may not be able to back up and see the list so keep track as you go along. Sometimes you can just click the back button and see the last page.
Once it gives the last code and you click "code accepted" you can exit the process. Ignore any page after it stops giving codes. It may ask you to check your phones settings, just exit your browser.
You now know exactly what Parameter 0 is for your phone.
